党的全国代表大会和其所产生的中央委员会是中国共产党最高领导机关。

The National Congress and its standing committee are the supreme leadership bodies in the Communist Party of China.

党代会每五年召开一次，总结过去五年取得的成果，并科学谋划未来五年乃至更长时期党和国家事业发展的目标任务和大政方针。

They meet every 5 years to evaluate the progress of the past 5 years and to chart the course for the next half-decade — and beyond.

大会的两项主要职能是决策和选举。本次会议要对全面建成社会主义现代化强国两步走战略安排进行宏观展望，被认为是“在关键时刻召开的一次十分重要的大会”。

Their two primary agenda items are decision-making and elections. The Party's 20th National Congress will offer a general overview of China's two-stage strategic plan to build a great, modern socialist country in all respects. This is why it has been deemed, "an event of critical significance at a crucial time."

每次大会的代表人数会有不同，但党代表选举标准始终很严格，堪称四万里挑一。

The number changes but the election criteria have been always strict over the years.

要想成为党代表，首先要获得提名，然后通过选举单位考核成为初步候选人，再进一步成为预备候选人，最后才能成为正式党代表。

To become a delegate, one need to: 1. be nominated, 2. pass electoral unit's evaluation, 3. become a preliminary and then preparatory candidate before finally been elected as a delegate.

2296名代表来自社会各行各业。比如科技、国防、政法、教育、社会管理等领域。

Delegates come from all sectors of society, including science and technology, national defense and law, as well as education and social administration.

一些我们耳熟能详的人有：呼吸系统疾病专家钟南山、短道速滑运动员武大靖、航天员王亚平和改善山区女童教育的教师张桂梅。

Some of the current prominent figures among the delegates are, leading epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan; short-track skater and Winter Olympic medalist Wu Dajing; astronaut Wang Yaping; and Zhang Guimei, a teacher devoted to improving the education of young women in impoverished mountainous regions.

While many delegates are renowned, an increasing percentage of delegates are grassroots members.

二十大代表须具有较高的思想政治素质、较强的议事能力和良好的作风品行。

Every delegate is an excellent Party member in terms of ideology, political integrity, working capability and lifestyle.

其中，女党员619名，少数民族党员264名，涵盖了40个少数民族。

Among all the delegates this year, 619 are female, and 264 are from 40 different ethnic minority groups.
